Memoremains forged a pop-punk hit into metal – I Don’t Wanna Be In Love cover is out now!

While working on new music, the band is holding on to its tradition: after a full-length album, it’s time to “rinse the ears” with a cover song.

After releasing their third album Toxic Devotion in 2025, the pop-metal band Memoremains took on Good Charlotte’s hit I Don’t Wanna Be In Love (Dance Floor Anthem) and forged it into their own metallic version. The band’s previously released covers In The Dark, I Turn To You and Sorry have gathered nearly two million streams on Spotify. Following the release of a full-length album, it was once again time for what has become a tradition for Memoremains: releasing a cover track.

“We toured in 2025 around the new Toxic Devotion album and performed as support for, among others, the Finnish band Brother Firetribe and Enemy Inside (GER). Along the way we met amazing people and had a really great time. We wanted that sense of fun to come through on the band’s next release as well, so we started thinking about a suitable cover,” keyboardist Mikko explains.

The idea for covering a Good Charlotte song came to vocalist Johanna while reminiscing about The Voice TV Finland, Finland’s first domestic music television channel.

“The music videos shown on The Voice were a huge part of my youth, and as a teenager I used to spend New Year’s Eve with friends following the channel’s top charts. A lot of different songs came to mind, but one especially vivid musical and visual memory was Good Charlotte’s I Don’t Wanna Be In Love (Dance Floor Anthem). The music video, where the band jams in a long white hallway while people dance around them, is probably burned into my brains forever,” vocalist Johanna recalls.

With their newly released cover, Memoremains wants to bring a piece of nostalgia and youthful carefree energy into the present day, spiced with a modern metal twist and genuine pop-punk attitude.

“I Don’t Wanna Be In Love is one of those songs that perfectly captures the energy of early-2000s pop-punk. Structurally, the song is interesting because it’s energetic and danceable, yet the lyrics convey emotional chaos. It’s a classic pop songwriting trick to combine bright music with messy emotions. We thought it would be fun to take that contrast and run it through the Memoremains filter,” keyboardist Mikko says.

The fresh cover release offers temporary relief not only for nostalgia cravings, but also for fans eager for new music from Memoremains. The band has been working hard on original material, and more new music is set to arrive later this year.
